Notes from the Editor

You will be constantly be reminded that this year is the 40th Anniversary of BCNS. It's quite a year for the BCN, with the Dudley Canal Improvements 150 celebrations and the IWA National Festival just off the BCN at Autherley. As a Society we are participating in all these events with as much enthusiasm and involvement as we can - volunteers permitting!!

Answers to my call for early memories have been gratefully received from Gordon Thompson, Darryl Foxwell, John Fellows, John Phillips and Ron & Shiela Cousins. Some items have been incuded, others will follow. I never ceased to be thrilled by such responses, whether they're from Society members of long standing or those who just joined.

Norma O'Keeffe has contributed a very interesting article to accompany the celerbrations of the Netherton Tunnel opening, giving us a social account of the man responsible for the BCN at time. Ray Shill keeps us up to date with the plans for Wolverhampton and how it was changed in the past, while Martin continues his BCN Tugs with Primus.

A terrific amount of letters this time, more than 4 pages. It's your Society journal so it's wnderful that you want to contribute so much to it. I hope this edition will prompt even more of you to respond.
