Notes from the Editor

What a busy year so much to include in this edition - 40th Anniversary Rally, BCN Cruise, DCI 150, IWA Festival to name but four. We've hardly got off the BCN with our boat this year. Will next year be any different for the BCNS? If our new Chairman who claims to have been only acting this year gets real next year I wonder what we'll be doing! He has certainly stirred up enthusiasm and I feel we will be going from strength to strength and with the membership report being such a long one this time I hope it means more members eager to become involved.

I do think that this edition of BP is a Phil Clayton Special. He is featured no less than 4 items. He has been busy! In one of his articles, Phil mentions a named brick on a coping at Windmill End. This and many other bricks throughout the BCN attract my interest when the name of the company is visible. A fine example is to be found on one side of the bridges on the Aston flight.
Maybe we could compile a whole list of brick companies who supplied bricks for the BCN by just keeping an eye out for them while walking about the system.
Here's two to start with - Wood & Ivery, Albion Brickworks, West Bromwich.
P&S Wood, Pump House Brick Works, West Bromwich.

In BP 170 I featured Ross the Ice Boat at the BCLM, owned for over 35 years by Bill Brokes, a BCNS member. I am sorry to report that Bill sadly died on August 24th this year/ I hope to obtain further details for next edition

Happy Christmas
