Notes from the Editor

As usual I'm very pleased with the variety of good articles from a wide selection of contributors. It makes my job so easy! From our usual's to others who are new this time-

Thank you to all

There are more historical items this time along with some that are very newsworthy like the W&E dredging. I'm sure this is going to make both the marathon Challenge and the Explorer Cruise much easier. There are many of the canals on the BCN that give little or no trouble but the W&E was not one of them but now.....! I'm looking forward to trying it out later this spring.

On page 10 you will see a list of events on and around the BCN. I included this in the last edition but have added more this time. We must be very fortunate in this area that there are so many groups prepared to spend their time for the pleasure of others.

Thinking of people spending time makes me think of George Andrews who sadly died earlier this year. He worked tirelessly for the benefit of others when campaigning for the retention of the waterways. I know that in those early days he and others in the IWA did not see the need for Canal Societies but 40 years on we all work very closely together all with one thing in mind - the good of the waterways. Long may this be the case.

It's always a pleasure to receive photographs taken of the BCN by members and friends, they tell as much if not more than the written word. Two examples this time from Nick Yarwood and Harry Arnold are of much interest. I have some others that are just waiting to be seen so if you've sent any to me sorry if they haven't appeared yet I'll find a suitable spot for them soon.

Many thanks

Brenda
