Notes from the Editor

Such a great deal has happened since the last edition, Half Marathon run, BCN Marathon Challenge, BCNS Rally, BCN Explorer Cruise, Ray's Summer Walk, movements with Atlas & Malus, and just lately the British Waterways Volunteers Recognition Award to name but a few. Then there are items sent in by members, including one from a very new member, so you may see that I,m finding it difficult to fit everything in. If I miss you out this time I'll try extra hard to include it in next edition. I had two really good accounts of experiences on the Marathon Challenge. Those that came second sent in first and those that were first sent theirs in second!! Maybe I'll get the other one in next time as I know there are quite afew of you who want to enter the Challenge next year and could do with the winners account...you'll have to wait!

The excavations in Centenary Square have taken the space of 'Branches and Byeways' but Ray has made a contribution with this article and will be back in his usual place in next edition. Items about the brick names came in from Annette & Gus. It will have to be next time for those too.
This edition gives us the penultimate entry of Phil Clayton's super series on junctions. I wonder what he's got next for us.

So much of the entries in BP this time came in very late so are more up to date than usual, including the devastating news about Langley Maltings, the very imposing Victorian building just along the canal from the Pump House.

What a difference the Explorer Cruise & Marathon Challenge has made to our Society memberships. see below report from membership officer.

"In the Autumn edition last year we welcomed 37 new memberships and I thought that was a record - well this year we've broken it. The list this year totals 51 !!."
